The state of radiotherapy in Hungary

A review on the history and present state of radiotherapy in Hungary is presented. The history of radiotherapy is summarized in tables giving the dates of important achievements between 1897 and 1985. Concerning the actual state, the design of the computerized national irradiation planning system is depicted, all the available irradiation instruments are enumerated. The research programs in progress, and the participation of Hungarian experts in the work of international organizations are reported. The therapeutic results achieved by the ortovoltage resp. brachy- and teletherapy are compared in the case of 11 different types of neoplasms. The article urges for the development and upgrading of the equipment of the Hungarian irradiation centres. (L.E.)
