Description
Magnetic measurements on orthorhombic U3S5 and U3Se5 and tetragonal U3S5 were performed in the temperature range 4.2-1000 K and in magnetic fields up to 80 KOe. The temperature dependence of the reciprocal magnetic susceptibility was found to be curvilinear for all the investigated compounds. Magnetic properties in the paramagnetic region were discussed in terms of the point charge model for the U34+Y5 and U4+U23+Y5 cases. The anomalies observed at low temperatures were supposed to be connected with the magnetic ordering with a ferromagnetic contribution. (author)
