Einstein-Yang-Mills pseudoparticles and electric charge quantization

  • 1. Department of Physics, Brandeis University, Waltham, Massachusetts 02154

Description

Solutions of the Euclidean-space Einstein-Yang-Mills equations are presented which describe a dyon black hole of mass M, angular momentum J, electric charge Q/sub e/, and magnetic charge Q/sub m/. In addition to the usual magnetic-charge quantization rule eQ/sub m/ = m (m = integer), the space-time topology of the Euclidean black hole, in particular the periodicity in the time coordinate, leads to a new electric-charge quantization eQ/sub e/ = n (1 - r/sub -//r/sub +/), where n = integer and r/sub plus-or-minus/ = M +- [M2 + J2M-2 + 4π (Q/sub e/2 - Q2/sub m/)]/sup 1/2/. Regarded as a (non-self-dual) Einstein-Yang- Mills pseudoparticle, the solution has finite action, a gravitational Euler number chi = 2, and an SU(2) Pontryagin number P = 2mn
