Mathematical model of interaction ocean-sediment. Use in radiogeochronology
Description
A Cesium-137 profile in a marine sediment has been studied for dating purposes. A time-dependent Cesium-137 flux function onto the sediment has been constructed from atmospheric data and Cesium-137 contents in seawater from Sellafield nuclear reprocesing plant. Then it has been used as input function for dating models. Previous linnear and complete mixing models are not useful to describe this profile. A new mathematical model based on physical and chemical processes is proposed and is shown to describe well the experimental activity profile. (Author)
