Electrical modifications to Three Mile Island-Unit 2 during the initial stages of the accident

Creators

Description

As a result of the Three Mile Island accident on March 28, 1979, a recovery task force was assembled at the site starting a few hours after the accident. Several process systems were designed and implemented in the field to prevent further deterioration of the situation, enhance the reliability of the existing systems, and to start the clean-up and recovery program. This paper deals with the electrical effort to support the recovery by meeting the electrical control and power requirements of the new systems, and by making the necessary modifications to the balance of plant power distribution systems to assure their reliability and availability given the new burdens imposed by the recovery program
