Polarizations in neutron-deuteron elastic scattering

Description

The polarizations in n-d elastic scattering and the correlations between observables for the JP=1/2+ state are studied using the method of Mitra, the integral equations for the n-d amplitudes with a one term separable potential with no restrictions on the multipolarity, are derived. The agreement between the proposed calculation and the 10 MeV p-d experimental results for the spin-correlations Cxx and C sub(yy) and N-N spin-transfers Kxx', Kyy' and K sub (z)x' by phenomenologically introducing the value of the 2S amplitude (an experimental p-d datum) and using for the others amplitudes a one term separable potential with S,P and tensor components, are shown. The 2S amplitude is critical these second order polarizations observables and, given the discrepancies between p-d and n-d experimental phase-shifts for this wave, the value of 2S with the use of the correlation between Kcot2 δ o and 2a (doublet scattering length) is obtained the n-d 2S results agree with p-d experimental data above 4 MeV. The correlation between Kcotg2 δ o and ET (Triton binding energy) with 2a within the zero range model. The propreties that Kcotg 2 δ o vs. 2a and ET vs. 2a have in a model with finite range V-N potential are not completely reproduced in the zero range model, is studied. (author)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Estudam-se as polarizacoes no espalhamento elastico n-d e as correlacoes entre observaveis no estado JP=1/2+. As equacoes integrais para as amplitudes n-d com potenciais N-N separaveis de 1-termo sem restricao na multipolaridade foram deduzidas atraves do metodo de Mitra. Mostra-se que o acordo com os resultados experimentais p-d para as correlacoes de polarizacao Cxx e Cyy e transferencias de polarizacao N-N Kxx', Kyy' e Kzx' a 10 MeV com o calculo proposto e obtido quando introduz fenomelogicamente o valor da amplitude 2S (dado experimental p-d) e usa-se um potencial N-N separavel de 1-termo com componentes S, tensorial e P para obter-se as outras amplitudes. A amplitude 2S e critica para essas observaveis de polarizacao de 20 ordem e em vista das discrepancias entre os deslocamentos de fase experimentais p-d e n-d nesta onda, obtem-se com base na relacao Kcotg 2γo x 2a (comprimento de espalhamento dubleto) o valor 2S (n-d). Os resultados para 2S(n-d) concordam com os dados experimentais p-d a partir da energia de 4 Mev. Estuda-se no modelo de alcance zero a correlacao de Kcotg 2 δo e ET (energia de ligacao do Tritio) com 2a. As propriedades que Kcotg 2 δo x 2a e E T x 2a possuem num modelo com potencial N-N de alcance finito nao sao completamente reproduzidas com o modelo de alcance zero. (autor)
