Protection of radiation damage by eicosanoids

Creators

  • 1. Univ. of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham, AL (USA)

Description

Eicosanoids have been implicated in the malignant potential of human and animal tumors. A variety of tumors produce a large amount of eicosanoids, which have been shown to influence metastases and growth but also suppression of the host. Radiation therapy of cancer can lead to local tumor control and potential cure. Recent investigations have shown an increase in prostaglandin production and release in cell and animal models by radiation. To explore the interactions between eicosanoids and radiation therapy, the recent literature is reviewed
