Parity-violating Electron Scattering
Description
A very successful theoretical framework exists to describe electroweak interactions over a wide range of energy scales. Neutral weak interactions can be used to probe novel aspects of hadron structure. Parity-violating electron scattering is the ideal tool to probe low energy neutral weak interactions. This series of slides gathers 2 lectures on parity-violating electron scattering. The first lecture is divided in 4 parts: 1) symmetries and conservation laws, 2) weak interactions and the unified electroweak interactions, 3) quantum electrodynamics and electron scattering, and 4) parity-violating electron scattering, while the second lecture deals with 5 topics: 1) strange quark content of the nucleon, 2) the HAPPEX and HAPPEX-II experiments, 3) the neutron skin of a heavy nucleus, 4) the PREX experiment, and 5) future program of parity-violating electron scattering.
