Absolute measurements of the fission cross sections of 235U and 238U by 252Cf fission neutrons

Description
The paper is aimed at absolute measurements of the fission cross sections for 235U and 238U by 252Cf fission srectrum neutrons. Coincidence method between 252Cf spontaneous fission and U induced fission is used. 252Cf is used as a neutron source and 252Cf fission fragments are companion particles. Determination of fission cross sections implies very strict requirements to the geometry of the experiment: thickness and homogeneity of the layers of isotopes (inhomogeneity - no more than 1%), source-target distance of several micron accuracy, parallelism between source and target layers, accuracy of substrate treatment. Obtained experimental values of fission cross sections for 235U and 238U are given in the table. The results of another investigation are also presented there. To compare the results obtained calculation has been carried out from the estimated data on fission differential cross sections. The estimated values are in good agreement with experimental values previously obtained
