Level density and radiative strength functions of dipole γ-transitions in 163Dy

Description
In the report presented at 11th Conference 'Capture Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy', intensities of the two-step cascades in 163Dy measured in Rez were reproduced with involving the idea 'scissors mode' built on the head-states with different structure of their wave functions. From the comparison of the experimental data and calculated spectra (distorted by the random fluctuations of the widths), the authors conclude about the significant influence of these specific excitations on the cascade γ-decay process. Analysis of a bulk of the information on the two-step cascades, made in Dubna without the model notions on the level density ρ and radiative strength functions k, showed that these data cannot be reproduced without the presence of step-like structure in level density and corresponding deviations of k from the simple model dependences. Using our early experimental data on the cascade γ-transitions from the 162Dy (n, 2γ) reaction, we determined dependence of the cascade intensity on the energy of their intermediate levels, and then - ρ and k which allow precise reproduction of the experiment. Level density in this nucleus (like in other earlier studied even-odd nuclei) in the interval 1 to 3 MeV is considerably less than that predicted by the model of W.Dilg et al. (1973). Enhancement of the radiative strength functions, caused by strong correlations of k and ρ, most probably, relates with the change in ratio between the quasi-particle and collective component of the wave functions of the cascade intermediate levels in the region of most strong change in their density
