Quantum and statistical aspects in deep inelastic reactions

Description

We review two of the open problems related to dissipative collisions in low energy heavy ion physics: one connected to the correlation between neutrons and protons (known as charge equilibration) which is a very fast effect. The other one connected to the possible existence of a dissipative mechanism intermediate in time between deep inelastic reactions and compound nucleus formation. Both experimental and theoretical developments are reviewed
