Description

Electronic structure of the Ce2Co1-xAuxSi3 compounds was studied by X-ray photoemission spectroscopy. Core-levels and valence bands were investigated. The XPS valence bands are compared with the ones calculated using the Tight Binding Linear Muffin-Tin Orbital (TB-LMTO) method. The spin-orbit splitting ΔSO determined form the XPS spectra of Ce 3d5/2 and Ce 3d3/2 are equal to 18.4 eV. The analysis of these spectra on the basis of the Gunnarsson-Schoenhammer model gives a hybridization of f-orbitals with the conduction band. The coupling parameter Δ changes from 28 meV for x=0.4 to 62 meV for x=1.0. (Abstract Copyright [2003], Wiley Periodicals, Inc.)
