A transmission electron microscopy investigation of filamentary superconducting composites

  • 1. Imperial Coll. of Science and Technology, London (UK)

Description

The microstructure of the Nb3Sn grains in commercially produced superconducting filamentary composites has been studied using transmission electron microscopy. The mean grain size increased with annealing time and temperature while the degree of columnar growth decreased at higher temperatures. Correlation of grain size and super-conducting properties showed that the maximum pinning force was obtained for a grain size of about 800 A. (author)
