Development of methods for evaluating active faults

Description

The HERP report for method for evaluating long-term of active faults and the NSC safety review guide with respect to geology and ground of site were published on Nov. 2010 and on Dec. 2010, respectively. In this study, we focused on the methods for evaluating activity, magnitude, seismic hazard etc. of active faults in those reports, and carried out the following investigations; (1) developing new methods for discriminating active fault and methods for estimating source faults and subsurface structure, and (2) consolidating methods for evaluating activity of faults. As to (1), we especially gear to surface rupture fault, blind fault and earthquake whose source fault is difficult to be specified. In addition, as to (2), we consolidate methods for evaluating activity of faults without superstratum by referring reliable information (parameter, index, methods, etc.) extracted from active fault survey and many previous studies.
