Investigation of radon concentration in some house's in Soba

Description
Charcoal canister technique as a passive diffusion method for measurement of radon concentration was used in the present study to investigate radon levels in houses located across Suba in Khartoum city. The measurements are based on adsorption of radon gas on activated charcoal and its subsequent measurement in scintillation gamma spectrometric system. The system is well calibrated using standard having the same geometry and physical properties of samples. Forty rooms are selected for the study. It is observed that radon varies between (89.13 and 213.91 Bq/m3) with mean value of (151.52 Bq/m3). The maximum annual effective dose can then be estimated to be 3.78 mSv/y.(Author)
