Application of neutron activation analysis for the determination of total lead and others interest elements in sediment samples from Serra do Navio region, in Amapa State, Brazil

Description

In this paper, the application of instrumental neutron activation analysis for the determination of Hg and As, Ba, Br, Ca, Ce, Co, Cr, Cs, Fe, Hf, K Mg, Mn, Na, Pr, Rb, Sc, Se, Ta, Tb, Th, U, W, Zn, Zr and rare earth elements in aquatic sediments was verified. Analyses of the reference materials showed the accuracy and precision of the method. The method was applied to sediments from Serra do Navio region, near a gold mining activity area. A radiochemical neutron activation method was developed to Hg determination in ng/g level. The results obtained for Buffalo River Sediment (NIST-2704) showed the accuracy and precision of the proposed radiochemical method. (author). 8 refs., 4 tabs
