Regulation, choices and safety criterions

After briefly mentioning the organization of the safety authorities and the various levels of statutory and para-statutory texts existing in France, this paper describes the working methods and technical positions adopted by the Central Safety Department for nuclear installations with respect to fast reactors. In particular, this is the angle from which will be presented the work relating to: the Creys-Malville nuclear power station, for which the examination of the preliminary safety report, as well as the scrutinity of the particular dossiers prior to the provisional report, gave resulted in a set of regulations, and the project for fast reactors after Creys-Malville, for which a re-examination of the safety criteria and the study of ''safety options'' presented by Electricite de France were started in 1981
