The chemistry of the soluble organic material in the Dounreay water supply from Loch Shurrery

  • 1. Aberdeen Univ. (UK)

Description

The concentration of the dissolved organic components in the water supply to the fast breeder reactor at Dounreay varies through the year and is related to rainfall. Infrared and NMR spectra suggest these compounds are polyanionic and have a complex molecular structure. The effectiveness of removal of the organic material by anionic resins is dependent in part on the type of resin used. A study of molecular size distribution of the material held by anion exchange resins shows a variation between Dowex 11, Amberlite 458 and Amberlite 958. (author)
