SPECT imaging with Tc-MAA: A guide for intraarterial chemoinfusion

Description

This study evaluates the use of single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) for a mapping intraarterial chemoinfusion (CI). Planar images after the injection of Tc-MAA are usually obtained to determine chemotherapy perfusion but are limited to two-dimensional information. SPECT provides three-dimensional and multiplanar information that is easily matched to CT images, the usual standard of tumor location. The information obtained with SPECT in the ten patients in the study provided superior anatomic information compared with planar images. SPECT is now used to dictate the pattern of directional embolization and catheter placement for CI at our institution
