Deuterium isotope effects, ΔpK = pKD2O - pKH2O, on the second dissociation of carbonic acid by Raman spectroscopy
- 1. Univ. of Guelph, Dept. of Chemistry, Guelph, Ontario, (Canada)
Description
Polarized Raman spectroscopy has been used to measure the deuterium isotope effect, ΔpK = pKD2O - pKH2O, for the second ionization constant of carbonic acid in the temperature range of 25 oC to 125 oC, CO32- + D2O ⇋ DCO3- + OD-. Results for the light water pK dependence on temperature were compared to literature, confirming the reliability of the method. (author)
