Ionisation and electron capture in collisions of H+ and He2+ ions with carbon monoxide

Description
A crossed-beam technique employing time-of-flight analysis and coincidence counting of the collision products has been used to identify and obtain cross sections for the main channels in collisions of 10-98 keV amu-1 H+ and 6.7-65 keV amu-1 He2+ ions with carbon monoxide. Separate cross sections for non-dissociative and dissociative electron capture, transfer ionisation and ionisation involving the production of Co+, C+, O+, Co2+, C2+ and O2+ ions have been determined for the first time. While non-dissociative electron capture and ionisation are dominant in the energy ranges considered, transfer ionisation is also important, particularly in the case of He2+ impact. (author)
