Individualisation of radiation treatment in moderately advanced cervical cancer

  • 1. Karnataka Cancer Therapy and Research Inst., Hubli (India)

Description

Radiotherapy is the treatment of choice in moderately advanced cervical cancer (Stages IIB, IIIA, IIIB). It can give satisfactory results if treatment is adopted after careful investigations and individualised planning. The policy of the authors is to treat them either with external radiation alone (Shrinking field technique) or combination of external radiation and intracavitary treatment. A variety of manual after-loading applicators were used to suit the size of vagina and uterus and the extent of disease. The experience of individualised treatment planning has been presented.
