High-energy solar protons

  • 1. Moskovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR). Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

The direct measurements of the arrival of protons with the high energy from large solar flares carried out aboard the ''Prognoz'' satellites revealed a delay of the escape of energetic protons from the Sun with respect to the maximum intensity of the microwave and hard X-ray, i.e. to the explosive phase of the flare. The delay of escape of energetic solar protons and relativistic electrons with respect to the explosive phase of the flare was also registered by other space probes and in the ground observations. The effect of delay in the injection of energetic solar particles into the interplanetary space can be accounted for by the fact that the particles are accelerated up to these energies during the decrease phase of the solar flare and not at the explosive phase
