Production of water labelled with oxygen isotopes by the reduction of nitric oxide

  • 1. Nauchno-Issledovatel'skij Inst. Stabil'nykh Izotopov, Gosudarstvennogo Komiteta po Ispol'zovaniyu Atomnoj Ehnergii SSSR, Tbilisi

Description

A process for reducing nitric oxide by hydrogen in the presence of various catalysts (iron, cobalt, nickel, platinum) is investigated, and the advantages of using a platinum catalyst are demonstrated. The influence of the temperature and proportions of the reacting gases on the enrichment and purity of the water obtained is studied. Optimum conditions are determined for the process: temperature 750-8000C; ratio of NO flow to H2 flow 1:1.03. The enrichment of the product is 95% and the concentration of the basic substance 99.99%.
