Study of the continuum in inelastic scattering of 12C on 28Si

Description

The interesting results obtained by particle-gamma correlation measurements in α- and 6Li-induced reactions on 28Si have led us to extend these studies of inelastic continua to 12C scattering at 174 MeV. Similar to the 6Li-induced reaction we observed discrete gamma transitions in 27Al and 24Mg only. This is interpreted as a dominance of direct proton- or α-removal processes in inelastic 12C scattering. Since the first excited state is bound in 13C and unbound in 13N the absence of mirror transitions in 27Si shows a prevalence of pickup-breakup over knockout amplitudes. (orig.)
