Gravitational clustering of galaxies - The probability distribution function
Description
The evolution of the probability distribution function, f(N), for finding N particles in a given volume for an infinite, homogeneous gravitating system with a Poissonian initial space distribution and a zero initial velocity distribution is determined. The evolution of f(N) was found to be consistent with the results of N-body simulations. The method is used to find f(N) for the same system, but with a nonzero initial velocity distribution. 11 refs
