Description
As a result of the two-stage reduction of copper sulfate with sodium borohydride and hydrazine hydrate in the presence of polyethylene glycol composite copper nanoparticles was obtained. The copper particles are 19,9-56,4 nm in size and have the admixture of copper oxide(I). The transmission electron microscopy and X-ray analysis were used to investigate the effect of reaction conditions on the morphology and phase composition of nanoparticles. It was shown that the reducing agent injection rate and reaction temperature have a larger influence on the particle size in comparison with the changing copper-PEG ratio. The phase composition investigation shows that the samples contain metallic copper and, in some cases, the admixture of copper oxide(I). According to the electron microscopic analysis, the growth of copper nanoparticles in two-stage reduction is carried out by a mixed mechanism with the sequential growth domination over parallel.
