Attempted synthesis and identification of element 106
Description
An attempt has been made to produce element 106 via the reaction 249Cf(18O,4n). Two new alpha groups were observed at 9.06 and 9.25 MeV having a half-life of 0.74 +- 0.23 sec which has been ascribed to the alpha decay of element 106. The results are consistent with a recently published report on the discovery of element 106. (1 figure ) (U.S.)
