Crystallographic analysis of phase transformation in Zr3AI-Nb alloys

Description
In many phase transformations the phases involved are structurally related to each other. These transformations either do not involve or partially involve the breaking of the bonds. The lattice registry is, therefore, maintained during the phase transformation. In these transformations, it is useful to examine the formation of the product phase through subgroup/supergroup symmetry relationship.Such an analysis leads to useful microstructural information regarding the sequence of the phase transformation, possible metastable phases, interconnections between the structures and domain interface configurations. This approach is especially useful when the thermodynamic data and crystallographic data on the system are limited
