Quenching of fluorescence by solutions of foreign substances in pores of different radius

Creators

Description

A fluorescence kinetic method is described for measurement of pore dimensions of 1-40 nm after filling a sorbent with a liquid. For the calculation, an equation comparing fluorescence quenching in free solutions and in pore solutions was used. Quenching of fluorescence of trypaflavine and uranyl with iodide in aqueous solutions, and of anthracene with O was studied. As a matrix, silica gel was used. Constants detected with the silica gel standards could be used for the determination of dimension of pores of other solid materials. The mean error of the determination was approximately 10%. The method was especially useful in measurements of dimension of pores of a solid matrix swelling in a liquid
