Hazards from the industrial use of radioactive static eliminators

A brand of air ionizing device for the elimination of static electricity has been subjected to tests to determine any possible hazards from the release of radioactive material in industrial use. It was found that a severe hazard could arise from the inhalation of crushed radioactive particles which could be readily released. A lesser hazard is possible from the ingestion of free radioactive material, which may also be readily released. The use of these static eliminators in New Zealand has been made subject to stringent control.
