Nuclear dynamics and analysis of scattering of neutrons by the nucleus 238U

  • 1. Institute of Radiation Physics and Chemistry Problems (Russian Federation)

Description

The approach considered here permits a unified theoretical analysis of both the spectroscopic properties of nuclei and the scattering of nucleons by them. To describe the collective motion of a nucleus, use is made of a phenomenological collective model of a rotator which is soft with respect to quadrupole β and γ vibrations, effectively taking into account also the hexadecapole surface modes. The parameters of the optical potential and of the quadrupole and hexadecapole deformations are determined for the nucleus 238U. 19 refs., 4 figs., 3 tabs
