Radionuclide adsorption by modified sorbents. I. Effect of synthesis conditions on properties of zirconium phosphates modified with glycolic and diglycolic acids

Description

The effect of synthesis conditions on the properties of modified zirconium phosphates has been investigated. Addition of glycolic or diglycolic acid to the reaction mixture during the synthesis of zirconium phosphates has been found to increase the phosphorus concentration in the sorbent, which in turn increase the total exchange capacity of the sorbent. Addition of diglycolic acid as the modifier, for instance, increases the distribution coefficient Kd for americium(III) and europium(III) by one and two orders of magnitude, respectively
