Torus type thermonuclear device
Description
Purpose: To maintain plasma currents substantially constant with no requirement for the continuous sinusoidal variation in toroidal magnetic field coil currents. Constitution: In conventional torus type thermonuclear devices, ohmic heating coil (OH coil) current and toroidal magnetic field coil current have to be changed together periodically. However, there has been a problem in view of the expensive cost for the toroidal power source repeatingly generating high voltage, etc. According to the present invention, a shape control coil current is periodically changed thereby repeatingly changing the plasma cross section, as well as the OH coil current is periodically changed at an identical frequency. Thus, the plasma cross sectional area is periodically changed thereby changing the amount of toroidal magnetic fluxes in the plasma in an direct manner to maintain the plasma current substantially constant with no repeating change for the toroidal magnetic coil current.
