Description
We present recent data gathered on the spectra, radiolytic yields, and chemical reaction rates of solvated electrons in supercritical water. The spectra in heavy water are strongly red-shifted relative to lower temperatures, with absorption maxima near 1700 nm at 400degC. The absorption maximum also shifts strongly to the red with decreasing density. Below 300degC, reaction of solvated electrons with SF6 and with O2 exhibit conventional Arrhenius behavior. Above this temperature the rate constants become strong functions of density. For O2 in supercritical water, the rate constant first decreases with increasing density, and then increases again.
