Description

Using the asymmetric two-center shell model we have calculated single neutron energies for the 13C + 16,17,18O systems as a function of the internuclear distance. Observed inelastic and neutron transfer reactions are explained by the model. It is found that there is only one inelastic process due to single-particle transitions in each system and all of them are induced between the 1d5/2 and 2s1/2 states of oxygen isotopes. The resonance-like structure observed in the γ-ray yield curve for 13C +17O → 13C + 17O* (1/2+,0.87MeV) reaction can be understood in terms of a resonance mechanism due to the nuclear Landau-Zener effect at the crossing distance Rc=7.7fm.
