Multi-layer transport and storage container for radioactive waste

Description

The transport and storage container for the long term storage of burnt-up fuel elements in suitable geological strata should guarantee sealed enclosure for a long period and should, above all be resistant to corrosion from salt solutions without being too expensive and too heavy. It consists of two or more layers of various metals or metallic alloys, of which the electrochemical series gets more positive from inner to outside layer. (orig./HP)

Der Transport- und Lagerbehaelter zur Langzeitlagerung abgebrannter Brennelemente in geeigneten geologischen Formationen soll einen dichten Einschluss auf lange Dauer gewaehrleisten und vor allem korrosionsbestaendig gegen Salzlaugen sein, ohne zu teuer und zu schwer zu sein. Er besteht aus zwei oder mehreren Schichten verschiedener Metalle oder Metallegierungen, die von aussen nach innen in der elektrochemischen Spannungsreihe immer edler (positiver) werden. (orig./HP)
