Quench analysis of the superconducting wiggler magnet for Indus-1

  • 1. Centre for Advanced Technology, Indore (India)

Description

The three pole superconducting Wiggler Magnet for Indus-1 Synchrotron Radiation Facility has been designed for a maximum field of 5 T at the centre (pole gap) of the magnet. The magnet is air core and consists of fourteen racetrack coils. The quench analysis for the Indus-1 Wiggler Magnet has been done to check the growth of normal zone so that how quick the dissipation of the stored energy can take place in the winding of the coils. The normal zone propagation, which dictates the rate of growth of coil resistance, hot spot temperature, coil voltage etc. has been studied for the different coils
