Possibilities of the anthropogenic radionuclide accumulation in the Kaunas reservoir - The part of the Nemunas riverine system

Description
It has been determined that the main part (∼ 70%) of radiocesium, brought to Lithuania from the polluted regions of Byelorus at the upper reaches of the Neris and the Nemunas, migrates to the bottom sediments. The radionuclide concentration measurements showed that a powerful radionuclide accumulation zone existed in the Kaunas basin. The maximum 137Cs concentrations in the basin bottom sediments amounted to 290 Bq/kg
