The application of methods for revealing faint objects to photographs obtained with infrared image converter
Creators
Description
Described in the paper are methods applied to images obtained by a 20'' telescope combined with an infrared image converter, with a view to minimizing the dark sky background and eliminating the inhomogeneous background of the image converter. The processing has been performed on the ''Razdan -3'' computer. The results are presented in a graphic form. Superposition of 10 pictures of the central part of the NGC 1502 galactic cluster has revealed an object weaker by about 1sup(m) than the sensitivity limit of the telescope equal to 16sup(m). As a result the detection limit of point objects has been raised to about 17sup(m)
