Detector for determining the tritium concentration in gases
Description
The detector consists of two cylindrical chambers connected by flanges, whose common wall consists of a thin foil. Both chambers are surrounded by a cathode each and have a counter wire. Methane with tritium is passed through one chamber, while a reference gas consisting of methane, butane or a mixture of these flows through the other chamber. Interference radiation can therefore be indicated separate from the gas and aerosol activity. Detection down to 2 x 10-8 μCi/ml is possible. (DG)

Der Detektor besteht aus zwei zusammengeflanschten zylindrischen Kammern, deren gemeinsame Wand von einer duennen Folie gebildet wird. Beide Kammern werden von je einer Kathode umschlossen und besitzen einen Zaehldraht. Durch die eine Kammer wird Methan mit dem Tritium geschleust, waehrend durch die andere Kammer ein Vergleichsgas aus Methan, Butan oder eine Mischung hiervon stroemt. Stoerstrahlung kann dadurch von der Gas- und Aerosolaktivitaet getrennt angezeigt werden. Der Nachweis von 2 x 10-8 μCi/ml ist moeglich. (DG)Files
