Influence of radiotherapy on the immune response of cancer patients
Description
The results of immunological surveillance of 60 patients with advanced ENT, mammary and bronchopulmonary cancers of Hodgkin's disease, treated only by physical agents are reported. These patients were explored by blastic stimulation testing before, during and after radiation therapy. The results confirm an immunodepressive effect of radiotherapy which increase as the irradiated areas increase, thus showing the importance of immunological surveillance of the cancer patients especially after irradiation. In effect the correlation existing between the importance of immunological repair after irradiation and a good short-term prognosis lead to plan new radio-immunotherapeutic associations in the treatment of advanced cancers or cancers with a poor prognosis
Abstract (French)
On rapporte les resultats de la surveillance immunitaire de 60 malades atteints de stades avances de cancers O.R.L., mammaires, broncho-pulmonaires, ou de maladies de Hodgkin traites uniquement par les agents physiques. Ces malades ont ete explores avant, pendant et apres l'irradiation par le test de transformation lymphoblastique. Les resultats confirment l'effet immunodepresseur de la radiotherapie, qui est d'autant plus marque que les zones irradiees sont larges, et demontrent l'importance de la surveillance immunitaire du cancereux surtout apres irradiation. En effet la correlation existant entre l'ampleur de la reparation immunitaire apres irradiation et le bon pronostic a court terme conduit a envisager des associations radio-immunotherapiques nouvelles dans le traitement des cancers aux stades avances ou de mauvais pronosticAdditional details
