Steroid hormones and peptide hormones in atopic eczema. Radioimmunological determination of diurnal plasma level variations of testosterone, cortisol, prolactin and human growth factor in healthy volunteers and patients showing atopic eczemae
Description
An analysis of hormone measurements in sera from healthy volunteers and patients that was carried out on the basis of different criteria yielded the following results: 1) The testosterone levels determined in the patients sera were significantly lower than those of the healthy individuals and the daily rhythmic variations seen here did not attain statistical significance. 2) There were no statistically relevant differences in the serum concentrations of cortisol between healthy individuals and patients, nor was the amplitude of the daily variations observed to be changed in a consistent way. 3) In the patients, as compared to the healthy individuals, the prolactin level was considerably increased, as was the amplitude of the daily rhythmic variations. 4) The values determined for the human growth hormone (HCG) varied considerably between the individuals of either group. Since this held true for both the fluctuations with time and the height of the serum concentrations, a statistical analysis of the results appeared pointless. The results confirm that central and autonomous components have an important role in ectopic eczemae. (TRV)

Die Auswertung der Hormonbestimmungen in den Seren von gesunden Probanden und Patienten erfolgte nach verschiedenen Kriterien mit folgenden Ergebnissen: 1. Die Serum-Testosteronspiegel von Patienten erwiesen sich als signifikant niedriger als die von gesunden Kontrollpersonen und unterlagen keinen statistisch verifizierbaren tageszeitlichen Schwankungen. 2. Es konnte weder ein statistisch verifizierbarer Unterschied in der Hoehe der Serumkonzentrationen von Cortisol noch eine einheitliche Veraenderung in der Amplitude der tageszeitlichen Schwankung bei Probanden und Patienten beobachtet werden. 3. Der Prolaktinspiegel war bei Patienten deutlich hoeher als bei Gesunden, ebenso die Amplitude der tageszeitlichen Schwankungen. 4. Die Werte des human Growth Hormone (hGH) zeigten eine grosse Variationsbreite innerhalb der einzelnen Gruppen, sowohl im tageszeitlichen Verhalten als auch in der Serumkonzentration, daher wurde auf eine statistische Auswertung verzichtet. Die Resultate unterstreichen die Bedeutung des zentral-vegetativen Moments beim ektopischen Ekzem. (TRV)
