Description

Under postulated abnormal (fault) reactor conditions, a rapid temperature transient could occur such that for a short time (<1 h), areas of cladding could attain localised temperatures up to 1300deg C. Therefore the oxidation behaviour of vapour deposited silica coated and of cerium and yttrium ion implanted 20Cr/25Ni/Nb stabilised stainless steel in CO2/1-2% CO/300 vpm H2O/300 vpm CH4, at 1.300deg C has been studied.
