Description

Low level liquid waste (LLW) are generated at the Nuclear Technology Development Center - CDTN. The wastes are compound of aqueous and organic solutions containing natural Thorium and Uranium, Radium and other elements. The LLW are treated in the chemical precipitation/filtration plant developed by the Waste Treatment Division. The sludge from the plant is solidified by cementation and the filtrate is released according to the specific standards. (author)

Abstract (Portuguese)

Os rejeitos radioativos liquidos gerados no Centro de Desenvolvimento da Tecnologia Nuclear - CDTN sao de baixo nivel de radiacao e constituidos, principalmente, de solucoes aquosas e organicas contendo torio e uranio naturais, radio e outros elementos. Estes rejeitos sao tratados na Instalacao de Tratamento Quimico/Filtracao, da Divisao de Tratamento de Rejeitos Radioativos-DITRR, onde os contaminantes sao concentrados atraves da precipitacao quimica. A lama gerada e imobilizada em cimento e o filtrado liberado de acordo com normas especificas. (autor)
