Description

We have applied a large acceptance solid-angle energy analyzer to measure angle-resolved energy spectra of photoelectrons excited by ultraviolet light. The observed photoemission patterns as a function of a binding energy provides the energy dispersion curves of highly oriented pyrolytic graphite. The measured dispersion curves of the σ and π bands agree with both the reported and theoretical ones based on ab initio calculations. The energy resolution of the analyzer estimated in this experiment agrees with the reported value measured by EELS experiment. The comparison of properties of three different analyzers clarifies that the simultaneous realization of the short measurement time and high energy resolution is the most advantageous feature of this analyzer
