Redshifts of galaxies in the cluster Abell 1367

  • 1. Royal Greenwich Observatory, Hailsham (UK)

Description

Redshifts, 31 of which are new and four previously determined, are presented for 35 galaxies in the region of the cluster of galaxies A 1367. The cluster has a redshift relative to the Local Group of 0.0218 +- 0.0004, and a corrected line-of-sight velocity dispersion, sigmasub(v), of 694 km s-1. Using the values for total luminosity and radius given by Oemler, a virial mass of 9.74 x 1014 M . and mass-to-light ratio, 295 M . /L . are derived for the cluster. The X-ray luminosity, Lsub(X), for the complete sample of five clusters of richness class 2, within distance class 2, is proportional to sigmasub(v)sup(3 +- 1). (author)
