Description

The B11 NMR spectra have been employed to study the structure of glasses in the ternary system SrO-B2O3-Al2O3. The fraction of BO4 units(N4) are measured and analyzed. The results indicate that for the glasses containing less than 30 mol% SrO the ternary strontium boro aluminate glasses can be viewed as a binary strontium borate glasses diluted by Al2O3. Above 30 mol % Sr the borons with one or two non-bridging oxygen atoms are produced in the glasses. The micro hardness (HV) values of the glasses varies similarly as the N4 values with SrO contents, the refractive indices and the densities of the glasses are measured and polted as function of SrO contents. The relationship between the properties and the structures of the glasses are discussed. (Author)
