Elasticsearch: an advanced open source internet search engine and its usage by INIS database

  • 1. Scientific Information Resources Division, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Organizations are generating, processing, and retaining data at a rate that often exceeds their ability to analyze it effectively; at the same time, the insights derived from these large data sets are often key to the success of the organizations, allowing them to better understand how to solve hard problems and thus gain competitive advantage (Kononenko et al., 2014). A Library and Information Science (LIS) professional should be aware of search engines which provides an advanced edge over the existing search engines by way of providing multiple features. Elasticsearch is an open source and distributed search engine. It is index based search engine and works on the concept of Inverted Index, which allows very fast data insertion and retrieval. The present work makes an attempt to brief the features of the search. The paper also analysed some of the published papers on Elasticsearch and tries to present the growth of literature, map researchers working on Elasticsearch and explore the fields related to Elasticsearch through analysis of keywords assigned with the publication records. Scopus database is used to retrieve documents published on Elasticsearch. (author)
