Description

For several decades nuclear and particle physicists, in their quest for 'better' detectors and imaging techniques, have developed devices of value to the medical profession. Today, it is of great value for practitioners in both disciplines to stay current with colleagues in the complementary area. For us 'nuclear/particle types' there are further benefits - satisfaction from contributions benefiting society and also the ability to seek funding in a 'popular and favoured' area of research and development. With this brief outline, you should be encouraged to become a participant in this exciting and expanding multi-disciplinary area of applied physics. To facilitate this, you may request, by emailing Gbeer at Uvic.ca, an electronic version of this presentation containing hot-linked web references along with journal references which periodically will be updated. These references contain all of the (high resolution) example images and many of the data tables referred to in the oral presentation. By referring to them via the web, you get a high quality, possibly coloured, image with an explanation by the author. I avoid the problems of copyright. You are encouraged to become participant in keeping this information document current, specifically on the topic of room-temperature nuclear detectors, which are of great current interest. (author)
